Friday Fun: How fast is an Aventador?

Answer: Very...

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 has to be one of the most exciting cars of the year. 691 bhp teamed up with 4WD and the most outrageous Lamborghini styling yet makes for a true blood Bull which is brutal and beautiful in equal measure.

The headline stats are 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-100mph in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph. But they’re just meaningless unless put into some context.

Autocar Magazine have decided to do just that, by staging a drag race between the Aventador and a couple of much cheaper yet widely regarded ‘fast’ cars. First up is the £170,000 Mercedes SLS AMG with 563 bhp, then we have the similarly priced 611 bhp Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Both of these cars are incredibly quick, so one would think that the Aventador would be a bit quicker, but is it really enough to justify the extra £80,000? Watch the video to find out:

Well we’re sure you’ll agree that it comprehensively wipes the floor with both cars, which is an amazing achievement. So it has proven its worth against lower priced competitors, but now we’d like to see how it fares against the £1m+ cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg Agera and Aston Martin One-77. Come on Autocar, you know you want to…
