Friday Fun: Chris Harris on US muscle
We need to make a statement from the off – we love muscle cars here at TorquingPoint. We love the style, the noise, the power, everything about them. Lots of people think they’re antiquated, brash, with no place in the modern world due to their absurd power and emissions.
But when you can buy a fully warrantied 670 bhp can with a top speed of over 200 mph for the equivalent of £35,000 these cars can be nothing but good for the petrolhead community.
As usual, we’re incredibly jealous of Chris Harris as he heads over to New York to drive the aforementioned 670 bhp Ford Shelby GT500 and the 580 bhp Chevy Camaro ZL1 on road and track. As expected they both make an epic noise, look outrageous and go like stink…
So which one would we have? It’d have to be the Mustang for us. The sheer absurdity of the power, the looks, the noise and the constant desire to go sideways would do it for us. We had a quote from a UK importer who said they could get a fully specced GT500 on a UK driveway for £51,000 – that’s less than a 414 bhp BMW M3. For the power, noise and exclusivity, that’s got to be one of the bargains of the year, even if it is much more than they pay in the US.
