Audi & Ducati team up for Pikes Peak
Audi and Ducati have released a short high quality video showing what they did at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Showing an RS5 and a Ducati motorbike racing up the hill, it hinted that they may be tackling the course as a marketing stunt. For the uninitiated, Audi bought Ducati recently so this is a way of showing that they understand the Italian brand.
The Audi RS5 has just gone on sale in the US, so is still quite a rare sight. It packs the same 4.2 litre V8 engine as in Europe, with 444 bhp going to all 4 wheels via a 7 speed dual clutch paddle shift gearbox. It accelerates from 0 – 100 mph in 10.5 seconds, which should be enough to set a decent enough time on the hillclimb for a production car. There are no specs of the car they’ll be using though, which may well have more power. Generally the top spec Pikes Peak cars have upwards of 800 bhp so Audi may do a little tweaking.
The motorbike in the video is the Ducati Multistrada featuring a 1.2 litre 2 cylinder engine putting out 150 bhp, which when combined with a weight of only 190 kg gives outstanding performance.
Though we have no images or video of the actual race yet, Ducati took the top 5 spots in the bike sector. The RS5's performance was a little worse, coming 5th in its category.
