Suzuki Jimny gets a facelift for 2013
We’re not sure what is more surprising, that Suzuki is facelifting the Jimny for 2013, or that it’s still on sale in the UK. We had no idea, thinking this model died a few years ago. But we’re actually happy that it’s still around – this is one plucky little SUV that refuses to die and offers great value for money.
To update the looks of the Jimny, the mini off-roader has a new front bumper with relocated foglights, a revised grille and a restyled bonnet. There's also a new Breeze Blue metallic exterior colour. Not much, but the Jimny has always had a certain understated simplistic charm about it and that stays, which is good news.
Interior changes are limited to new seat upholstery for the SZ3 models. SZ3 and SZ4 variants also gain redesigned headrests as well as standard ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The Jimny is still powered by a 1.3 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 84 bhp and 81 lb/ft of torque. Not huge numbers, but the Jimny only weighs 1158 kg so it still moves along at a decent pace. The Jimny can be had with the standard 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic gearboxes, which average 39.8 mpg (38.7 mpg with the automatic) and have CO2 emissions of 162 g/km (167 g/km with the automatic).
Pricing was always the Jimny’s rump card though, with the SZ3 model costing £11,995. But with the much larger Dacia Duster starting at just £8995, we can’t help thinking that the Jimny’s days are numbered…
