New Kia pro_cee'd revealed

Great car, grammatically stupid name...

Kia has revealed the first images of the new 2013 pro_cee’d which debuts in Paris at the end of the month. It’s the third member to join the second-gen cee’d line-up after the 5dr hatchback and the SW (estate).

As with the previous pro_cee’d (do they name them like that just so journalists have a really hard time writing it?) the 3dr body adopts a much sportier style and stance than the 5dr model. The headlights and grille are shared with the cee’d, but there is now a chrome strip connecting them together and the front bumper is lower and more aggressive. From there the body features a raising waistline and sloping roof which ends at the tapered rear. There are new tail lights with LED graphics and deeply sculpted sides, along with new alloy wheel designs.

The interior is pretty much the same as the 5dr cee’d, which means it has a well thought out dash and centre console with a clear layout and hard wearing materials. Overall it’s a really good looking car, one that strikes a genuinely sporting stance and doesn’t lose any ground to cars like the Renault Megane Coupe or Vauxhall Astra GTC.

No details about the engine line-up but the new pro_cee’d is likely to use the same engines as the hatchback and the SW, meaning two petrols and two diesels, with output ranging from 86 bhp to 132 bhp. Rumour has it that Kia is working on the first hot hatch version of the pro_cee’d which will have over 200 bhp from a 1.6 litre turbo.

Of course, all pro_cee’d models come with Kia’s fantastic 7-year warranty. Prices have yet to be announced for the pro_cee’d but they will be revealed nearer to the on-sale date in Q1 2013.
