Vauxhall Astra gets a hot diesel model and refresh

GTC Bi-Turbo and a small facelift for the big seller...

After releasing the VXR onto British roads Vauxhall hasn’t rested on its laurels – today it has revealed details of the new performance diesel Astra GTC and of a refresh for the rest of the range.

The GTC gets the 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel engine previously seen in the Insignia and puts out a healthy 193 bhp and 295 lb/ft of torque. This enables the GTC to sprint to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds and top out at 139 mph, which are pretty good specs for a diesel.

Visually the GTC Bi-Turbo gets a slight makeover with bespoke 18 inch alloy wheels in a black and silver finish, a new front bumper and rear spoiler. There’s a new rear bumper as well with twin exhaust pipes.

Inside there is a new ‘Track’ trim and a flat bottomed steering wheel for a sportier feel (apparently). Prices start at £23,925.

The rest of the Astra range also gets a mid-life tweak, with new front grille and foglight area on all models. Prices are unchanged.
