Mercedes release images of G63 & G65 AMG
Following the release of the updated G-Glass recently, Mercedes has finally revealed images of the one we all wanted to see – the monster G65 AMG.
The G65 sits above the already mightily powerful G63 AMG, which is powered by AMG’s de rigeur bi-turbo 5.5 litre V8 engine generating 530 bhp and 560 lb/ft of torque and costs around €215,000.
No one could ever really say that the G63 feels underpowered, in fact many say that 530 bhp is far too much power for the G-Class to cope with, but companies like Brabus have been slotting a V12 into the G-Class for years and selling them to impossibly wealthy clients, mainly in the UAE and Far East, so Mercedes have decided to have a slice of that action.
The G65 AMG is powered by a 6.0 litre V12 bi-turbo engine that generates 597 bhp and a massive 737 lb/ft or torque. That’s pretty much the level of torque where you accelerate and the worlds spins a little slower. It manages the 0-62 mph dash in a barely believable 5.3 seconds on the way to its top speed of 145 mph.
Visually the G63 and G65 get the same body kit, with a deep front bumper featuring three massive air inlets. The rest of the car is much like the other G-Class models, but the G63 AMG gets a twin exit exhaust just ahead of the front wheels while the G65 sports the same side exhaust on both sides to show off that it has 12 cylinders. Both models roll on 20-inch alloy wheels, the G65 gaining a titanium finish.
The G65 goes on sale in Europe and ROW later this year (though not in the UK or USA) at a crazy €264,180.
