Aston Martin reveals the Vanquish Volante

Sexy looks, powerful engine and that V12 noise – what’s not to like?...

Look out Mercedes SLS Roadster  – there’s a new girl in town and frankly she’s much more attractive! Aston Martin have revealed the new Vanquish Volante and despite the power, bodywork materials and chassis tech there’s one thing that stands out before you get to any of that – the looks.

The Vanquish was already a stunning car, but there’s now an extra shot of glamour added into the mix by chopping off the roof. You still have the aggressive front end with the sleek headlights, traditional Aston grille and gloss carbon fibre splitter and the ridged bonnet. There’s the usual vent in the front wing leading to a body swage line too, with heavily swollen rear hips. At the rear there’s the carbon diffuser and sculpted boot spoiler from the coupe as well, but now there’s a longer rear deck and two humps behind the rear seats which incorporate the rollover protection.

Overall we just think it looks incredible, especially in the blue of these press images. We’re not quite as keen on the bright blue interior, but thankfully that’s optional. You still get the lovely ‘waterfall’ centre console and quilted seats which make for a truly beautiful interior.

Power is, much like the Vanquish Coupe, provided by Aston Martin’s latest version of the 6.0 litre V12, producing 565 bhp and 457 lb/ft of torque sent through the six-speed Touchtronic automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. The weight has increased over the coupe, but the performance stays the same with 0 – 62 mph taking 4.1 seconds and topping out at 183 mph.

A first for an Aston convertible is the full carbon fibre bodywork, which helps to make the Vanquish Volante 14% stiffer than the DBS Volante it replaces. It also boasts a 50% larger boot at 279 litres, roof up or down. The best bit for us though, is that without a roof your ears get treated to uninterrupted access to the glorious noise made by that V12.

The order books are now open for the £199,995 Vanquish Volante and first deliveries will be made later this year.
