Porsche reveals the 911 50 Years Edition

Celebrating 50 years of Porsche making the 911 by adding some retro style...

Porsche is celebrating 50 years of 911 production with a new limited edition model based on the 991. Aiming to ape the success that the 997-based 997 Sport Classic achieved, the 911-50 takes some classic 911 touches and blends them seamlessly into the modern style. The 911 was first launched in 1963 and as a nod to this, there will only be 1963 911-50 models sold worldwide.

The body is the Carrera 4S wide variant, but with the Carrrera 2S running gear, meaning a wider track but with only rear wheel drive – a pretty good combo to us. Power is by the standard 395 bhp Carrera S engine, though the Powerkit which raises the power to 430 bhp is still available for around £9000.

The big changes to the 911-50 are visual though and in our opinion add up to make one of the best looking 911’s since the Sport Classic. The most obvious addition are the gorgeous 20-inch alloy wheels designed to look like the classic Fuchs alloys that graced many a 70’s and 80’s 911. At the rear there is also a new chrome engine cover reminiscent of the 911S and there are two unique paint colour choices including the ‘Geyser Grey’ seen in the press images.

Inside there is a treat in store as the seats have centre panels in the classic ‘houndstooth’ check pattern and the dials are green backlit, both nods to the past.

The 911-50 is available in manual or PDK forms, with 0 – 62 mph taking 4.5 seconds in the manual and 4.3 seconds for the PDK variant. Both hit 186 mph flat out.

The Porsche 911 50 Years Edition is available to order now priced from £92,257.
