Vauxhall launches VXR8 Tourer
Vauxhall has unveiled the third version of their VXR8 range to go alongside the saloon and pickup – the VXR8 Tourer.
Basically an estate version of the VXR8 saloon, it’s based on the Holden VE Commodore from Australia but gets all the goodies from the VXR8, teamed with a truly enormous load space. The Tourer gets the same looks as the VRX8 saloon, with an aggressive front end featuring a wide lower intake, DRL LED strips and bonnet ‘nostril’ vents. There are wing vents as well and the Tourer sits on 20-inch graphite alloy wheels.
Of course, the VXR8 in any configuration is all about the engine and the Tourer doesn’t disappoint with the same 6.2 litre V8 powerhouse, putting out 425 bhp and 406 lb/ft of torque. This is enough for 0 -60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph. Power is driven to the rear wheels through the standard six speed manual gearbox or an optional six speed auto.
But stats only tell half the story of the VXR8 range. They’re no longer the performance bargains they once were – this Tourer comes in at £49,500 which is still a good 5 figure sum cheaper than the next German competition, but this car is all about big power, aggressive looks and pure fun. The fact that it also happens to have a truly enormous boot is icing on the cake.
We just can’t wait until these have plummeted in value and we can feature one for £10k in a 2nd Hand Spotlight feature...
