Bentley unveils the Continental GT Speed

Coincidence that it's released the same day as the Aston Vanquish?...

Bentley has announced that it will debut the new Continental GT Speed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012 next week. They have however been kind and treated us to some specs and images ahead of then. We can’t help but think that this is a rather cynical marketing ploy though, given the timing in relation to Aston Martin’s new Vanquish reveal…

Billed as the marque's fastest production model ever, the new performance flagship produces 616 bhp and 590 lb/ft of torque from its 6.0 litre twin turbocharged W12 engine. All that power and torque is transmitted to the tyres by a newly revised ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

Performance wise, 0-60 mph takes 4.0 seconds and the GT Speed has a top speed of 205 mph, putting it firmly in the 200 mph club.

The visual modifications are kept a little more low-key than the previous model’s Speed variant, with no changes to the bodywork or bumpers. There is, however, lowered and uprated suspension, unique 21-inch wheels and special ‘Speed’ grilles and exhaust pipes. The GT Speed gets the Mulliner Driving Specification interior as standard.

Order books are open now with deliveries to begin in October 2012. Prices will be revealed next week at Goodwood.
